How to Play
Herewords is a many-stepped game of guessing words, wherein the words grow from one letter in length unto six, and at each stage you are granted one guess beyond the number of letters in the word. Your first attempt bears the richest reward, being subject to the fullest multiplier, whilst each failure thereafter diminishes it. A letter rightly placed shall be marked correct; one belonging to the word but standing elsewhere shall be marked present; and one having no place in the word shall be marked absent. Letters once declared absent may not be ventured again.
Should your allotted guesses be spent before the word is found, you may purchase further attempts at that same length with the points you have gathered: an extra guess costs three points at two letters, then six, twelve, twenty-four, and forty-eight as the words grow longer, such supplementary guesses being scored at a multiplier of ×1, and you may buy as many as your treasury permits; yet the offer is made but once for each length, so spend your hoard with prudence. Upon solving a word, you pass onward to the next length, while every guess made during the present run remains upon the board as a record of your endeavours.
